Myrmex Hollow - A self critical review
As of writing this review, I’ve recently completed development on my first original video game, which I have called Myrmex Hollow ; “ myrmex ” being Greek for “ant” (or so I’m told). I think I’ve always had an interest in making my own video games, ever since I was about 8 years old drawing levels for my own Oddworld games entirely on paper. But my interest in creating video games was re-invigorated as an adult by Yahtzee’s Dev Diary series on The Escapist . I had a few interesting ideas floating around in my head regarding something I could potentially make and one came from my playing classic 90s shooters. A couple of years ago I started playing a lot of the classic 90s shooters, such as Quake, Duke Nukem 3D , and Blood . I was already a big Half-Life fan and had been for many years and I had played a lot of the original Doom in the past too. But I found myself thinking; in Doom you fight demons, in Half-Life you fight aliens, in Turok you fight dinosaurs, in Quake you figh...
